LiliTun is a VPN server and client for overcoming Internet censorship. Unlike other VPN, we use a proprietary protocol that allows us to effectively mask encrypted traffic from control tools.

What is VPN?

VPN, or Virtual Private Network, is an encrypted connection from a device to a network over the Internet. In recent years it has gained more popularity mainly due to new trends in a way companies work, and also because more users want a greater level of online privacy to protect their identity.

Why to use VPN?

VPN allows you to have your internet connection encrypted and secure. By using VPN we protect our private data from snooping and interference, hence no one can know what we do online or where we are indeed. It aims to protect our sensitive data from being stolen or misused. Also, VPN can be used to bypass blocked websites and access government-restricted or region-locked content.

How does VPN work?

When we connect our to VPN, the device acts as if it’s on the same local network as the VPN. When we browse the web while connected to VPN, our device (such as a computer, smartphone or tablet) contacts the website through the encrypted VPN connection. The VPN forwards the request for us and forwards the response from the website back through the secure connection. We virtually appear on the same local network as the VPN. Here is an example: If we are in China and want to access Google, YouTube or Facebook, we have to use VPN, otherwise we will not be able to access those and many other websites. Once we are connected to one of the servers outside of China, for example in Canada, the website sees our connection as coming from within Canada. That is all because access to websites and services in most cases is blocked by IP address. By connecting to the internet, we get an IP address within the country where we are currently, thus, any restrictions that apply there apply to us. Using VPN allows us to connect to servers in different countries, so the IP address looks like we are in a different place. This IP address spoofing allows us to access restricted websites while ensuring the security of our sensitive data.
